Narcissists Disrupt Couples Therapy

Download | Duration: 00:02:37

The narcissistic personality is fixed from childhood. There are exceptions but it is very rare for the narcissist to change. This is a severe personality disorder and those of you who have been psychologically and financially harmed by the narcissist are well aware of this statement. Unfortunately, spouses often don't recognize until tremendous damage has been done that they had been married to a narcissist. They often blame themselves, try to change the narcissists, make endless promises to confirm to his or her wishes, only to be discarded, discredited and often hounded many years after the divorce, especially when there are children involved.

To save the "marriage" a therapist will recommend couples therapy. The narcissist will use this opportunity to pretend that he is being cooperative. He or she has no intention to be engaged on any level with the counseling sessions. He is his usual charming self and often wins over the therapist. Some people are surprised that a trained psychotherapist could be fooled about the true nature of a narcissist but this is often the case. Now  the narcissist has the therapist believing that you have a mental disorder. This happens! If you need the help of a psychotherapist, do your research and go one on one. This is the best course.
