Recently a high level executive publicly announced:"I need to get my life back." This was said by him despite his charge of finding answers and handling and resolving a catastropic event of massive proportions that is affecting the well being of millions of individuals, Nature as well as tens of thousands of marine animals. Perhaps, I should not be so surprised since I am in contact every day with people whose lives are held upside down and inside out by individuals who are only thinking about themselves and their needs despite chaotic and tragic events all around them. Narcissists always have their lives back since they never left them. Those who are involved with narcissists, closely, spouses, partners, children, siblings often report that their lives don't belong to them because they are under the control of the narcissist day and night. Even their own thinking is questioned as is their judgment and performance. Narcissists get away with this kind of outrageous behavior because they use intimidations, psychological manipulations and deceit to undermine others to bow to their wills of steel. 

At some point these victims of narcissists recognize that they can no longer relinquish their unique selves, destinies and gifts for the narcissist to use for his own purposes. They realize that they deserve "to have their own lives back." I hear form those who have made the decision to sever their ties with the narcissist and the reports are very favorable. After a lot of healing work, either professional psychotherapy, yoga, relaxation techniques, meditation or a combination of healing modalities and the benefit of a small support group of trusted friends, they emerge from the process, healing themselves each step of the way. Now they are self entitled to live, expanding their lives by learning to trust those who are worthy of it, using their unique creative gifts, finding new vocations and developing a sustained feeling of inner peace.
