Steer Clear of Covert Narcissist's Digs and Traps

Covert Narcissists come in every shape and stripe.  Some are highly successful in the world, possess charm, even charisma and are skillful at manipulating almost anyone. Others appear to be bland and almost fade out against any social surface. Some covert narcissists are pseudo spiritual types draped in a well worn robe of false humility. They have a treacly manner that can be nauseating. What they have in common is their narcissistic personality structure. The covert narcissist is a master of disguises and pseudo empathy. He is a method actor who believes the role he is playing---that of the good person.

Once you have let him into your life, learn how to deal with his digs and ambushes and remain unscathed. The covert narcissist is always playing the one upsmanship game. After you have let downyour guard, the covert narcissist lets you have it. He or she runs you over with all of their recent victories, enormous business coups, powerful people who hold them in awe, their  access to the highest echelons of power and their economic security. Here are a few ways to handle the covert narcissist: Steer clear of covert narcissists as much as you can. Become very familiar with the MO of the covert narcissist. If they ask you a question about how you are, give them a very brief answer. They don't give a damn about how you are. They are waiting to tell you how wonderful, successful and extraordinary they are. Brief answers and a neutral nonverbal response tamps down their heat and velocity.

Appreiciate who you are ---your authenticity, spontaneity, your humor and open heart. Find individuals who are honest, transparent about themselves, kind, fine listeners and have your welfare and intersts uppermost in their minds.
