Narcissistic mothers have all of the classic attributes of this personality disorder: extreme self absorption, lack of empathy, emotional coldness, self entitlement, pure selfishness. In addition, they are exceedingly cunning. Often the narcissistic mother chooses a favorite child who is her protege. Her other children are either ignored, abused or both. Children of narcissistic mothers live in a psychological state of siege. Often the child of a narcissistic mother is unable to trust other people and has a difficult time with intimate relationships. Other children, in an effort to escape their nightmare circumstances, marry precipitously, often to narcissists.
