A narcissistic supply put simply is a word, deed or relationship that provides a narcissist with immediate ego enhancement. It  intensifies his feelings of perfection, superiority, extreme self entitlement. Very successful narcissists create a constant flow of narcissistic supplies that come to them through their celebrity, wealth, achievements in the the world and power. Narcissists swallow up other people's lives, particularly their spouses.  Not everyone is a high level narcissist---there are plenty of types of narcissists to go around. There are covert narcissits, wearing the garb of humility and niceness and even low level narcissits who are not high achievers or have star quality but, nevertheless, possess that intractable personality disorder characterized by ruthlessness, self absorption, manipulatoin and lack of empathy. Narcissists surround us today as the current culture rewards and applauds their exploitive, conscience-less efforts as long as they are a tremendous success.
