Narcissists are Actors Playing Different Roles
Narcissists, specifically those who are very successful in the world, are consummate actors. They write, direct and act in their own productions. Narcissists find others to play co-stars, character roles and bit players. These are the members of the narcissist's circle that keep his ego inflated at all times. The actors directed by the narcissist exist only as narcissistic supplies who flatter him with perpetual praise, are willing to serve him in any capacity and will put up with his dark side when things get ugly. The members of the narcissist's company of actors are individuals who don't feel strong or adequate enough to take initiative in their own lives. They often feel unworthy and incapable of taking the lead professionally and personally. They attach themselves to the narcissist, believing that some of his gold and glory will rub off on them. In exchange they relinquish their lives to self absorbed, exploitive, deceitful and manipulative individuals. Narcissists don't share; they take. As much as we want and try to make them change, this is most unlikely to happen.
The narcissist cannot be genuine or true. He spends his life playing the roles that will bring him what he wants the most: personal power, wealthy, access to social status, perpetual adulation. Learning how to identify, understand and deal successfully with narcissists will give you essential tools for moving forward in your life, free from the lures and snares of the finely tuned narcissistic actor, pretender and dissembler.
