Medusa wore her roiling snakes proudly like a crown. Eve made a deal with the serpent in the garden. For millenia the undulating snake has been a symbol of mystery and fear. The image of the snake conjures up the covert and deceptive qualities of the concealed narcissist.  His manner is not grandiose; it is finely tuned low key. One would think he is playing the role of a minor actor in an innocuous B movie.  

But like a snake in the grass, no one notices his/her approach. He blends in with his environment. He is above suspicion and often labeled as humble and self deprecating. Au contraire!  He injects poisonous venom before you have a hint of his presence.

Identify the concealed narcissist by his deeds.  Don't let the false humility, fake empathy or self deprecation throw you off the scent. Watch his ruthless moves. His velvet voice tone and gracious words belie a power obsessed, ruthless person who will compete and win at any cost, especially yours. These narcissists are always going for the summit, willing and ready to jeopardize the personal psychological and emotional safety of their fellow climbers. They never turn back when a friend falters. Secretly, they revel in the other's misfortunes.  For the narcissist, another competitor has fallen due to weakness.
