When the Chips Fall-Narcissists Are More Grandiose and Delusional

The narcissist's ego is always full blown whether the winds of  fate are favorable or unfavorable. When catastrophe strikes for others, the narcissist is disinterested and aloof.  He/she does not want to be part of tragedy, especially when it arrives at someone else's doorstep. The narcissist will use the reverses of others to bring attention to himself if he can garner plenty of ego satisfactions from it. He makes empty promises  to help friends or business associates but disappears when he is vitally needed.

When the narcissist is on a downward spiral in his professional life, he never admits it. As financial catastrophe looms, the narcissist becomes more grandiose and delusional with his inflated visions of success. He constantly searches his environment for another sucker who will invest in his latest brilliant business concept. Narcissists are particularly gifted at selling themselves and their ideas. Usually the narcissist who is in financial and business trouble, has a few people up his sleeve whom he can count on to invest with him one more time. The narcissist spins a vision of manic success for his brilliant plan. He asks for and often receives the money he needs up front. He appears to have endless bridges to burn. He will use anyone or do anything to get back on top.

If you are romantically involved with a narcissist and  are in a high income bracket, be prepared to be approached by a narcissistic man or woman who will convincingly suggest that you invest in his latest business venture.  I have interviewed a number of women who were so in love and psychologically fused with their narcissistic partner they were unable to say "no" and protect themselves financially from their narcissistic man. The narcissist is a psychological predator. For him "love" is just another four letter word.
