The narcissistic personality is characterized by deep feelings of emotional emptiness, restlessness and constant boredom. The narcissist is never at peace. They are always in a frenetic race to the top. The narcissist is incapable of introspection or insight. He or she can neither give nor receive love. Ultimately, the narcissist is completely alone.

I dated a "charming" narcissist for a year. I knew within the first six months that there was a dark side to him. His gold plated smile wore off and he became verbally abusive and very demanding,expecting me to be perfect. I found another aspect of my ex's personality---extreme restlessness and boredom when he was at loose ends. If he wasn't getting constant kudos at work, from friends or me, he was enraged and restless. He left me for someone else. I suffered a lot. It took me a long time to realize he was a toxic narcissist.
