I recently watched a fascinating documentary on that most ingenious of sea creatures--the cuttlefish. The cuttlefish is a master of disguise, capable of  drastically changing the colors, patterns and textures of  his skin and the actual size of  his body within milli-seconds. These dramatic changes are mesmerizing, unbelievable even to the most watchful eye. Cuttlefish use these inherent gifts to both camouflage themselves for safety and  to dazzle their prey. Cuttlefish are always hungry, searching for their next meal. In full display the cuttlefish parades like a psychedelic light show. His future victim is so hypnotized by this vision from another world, that he lets down his guard. The cuttlefish instantly snaps into action, devouring his intended in one lightening swoosh.

The unique qualities of the cuttlefish remind me of the true nature of the narcissist, especially those who function at a very high level. The high level narcissist is a social dazzler. If a narcissist is attracted to you, he turns on his own psychedelic light show.  "Charm is oozing from all of his pores like perfume that lingers on the body of a beautiful woman.  The narcissist is appealing to our ego needs and desires---our deepest longings to feel unique, talented, loved, etc...When we are seduced by a narcissist, we view a seamless mask that tells us we are splendid."  A high level narcissist in full display is irresistible. The narcissist is a gifted actor and master of many starring roles. He/she  choreographs all the right moves that lead us to surrender, acquiescing to his will.  Since he has offered us a world full of promises, those on the receiving end cannot say "no" to him. Discovering the real person beneath the narcissist's mask comes at its own special time. The lies, betrayals, manipulations, humiliations, tirades and intimidations begin before long. Some spouses and partners of narcissists put up with this abusive behavior, continuing to blame themselves and relentlessly try to change the narcissist. Those who are fully awake and have developed antennae to recognize the narcissist's irresistible persona, know  how to skillfully swim away to another reef or protective cove. It is invaluable to learn to identify the camouflage and seduction techniques of the narcissist, especially in today's world which is populated by so many of these mesmerizing and dangerous breeds. Visit my website:www.thenarcissistinyourlife.com
