Most high level narcissists (those who are A list achievers in business) are money obsessed. Almost every word coming from their mouths is related to swelling their material assets:cash, properties, stocks, family trusts,off shore accounts.  

One  way or another when you go out to dinner with one of these characters, between the coq au vin and the creme brulee, you will be bombarded with their money mantras. Try to pull them toward a different topic. Forget about it. These individuals suffer from money OCD. (obsessive compulsive disorder) Some narcissists discreetly drop the names of their private clubs, exclusive vacation retreats, chummy relationships with elite business scions.

One of my clients pointed out that she had spent hundreds of hours of dinners, suffocating through these airless expanses.  She picked at her peas, wondering if she could tolerate one more moment of another obsessional litany. She divorced her narcissistic husband  and acknowledged her role in his production. She had been specifically chosen to play the part  of  the attractive youthful spouse whose job was to continuously burnish her husband's perfect image.  When she finally recognized that she was a stage prop in someone else's life, not her own, she left this theater of the absurd.  After the divorce and with some quality psychotherapy, my client moves freely in her own inner world, has discovered numerous creative gifts, taken them out of storage and has started her life anew.
