Narcissists Are Boorish

Our so-called civilized society has become certifiably uncivilized in the last few decades. Most people lack good manners, which in a basic sense is consideration and  respect for the feelings of others. Narcissists are special offenders. They feel entitled to do and say anything they want. Their overriding sense of superiority gives them  free rein at criticizing others, hurting people's feelings and creating chaos and ill will wherever they go. Some narcissists suddenly become civil and smooth when they are in the company of someone who can re-stock them with narcissistic supplies: money, access to power, praise, veneration, selfless service, sexual gratification, unquestioned obedience, worship.

As a child the typical golden boy or golden girl narcissist was never taught that other people mattered. or even existed. They were simply part of the stage set on which the young star actor performed commanding roles. Parents were so enthralled with their son or daughter's brilliance, physical attractiveness and athletic or artistic gifts, that their child was crowned perfect, requiring neither correction nor behavioral limitations.

Many narcissists are downright boorish, meaning that they exhibit a chronic rude, callous, vicious  manner toward others. Descriptions of wild boors fit the narcissistic personality on many levels: "The classic wild boar is vigilant, fast and tough...and he is merciless. Boars have prominent  tusks that never stop growing. The upper jaws have stumpy "whetters"; the lower jaws have "cutters." The whetters shear the cutters, making them razor sharp weapons that can fatally puncture an opponent. When you see an agitated boar foaming at the mouth he is honing his most lethal weapon."  Anyone you know?
