Narcissists Can't Stop Telling You How Wonderful They Are

With every word, gesture, movement and glance, the narcissist trumpets to himself and everyone near and far that he/she is superior, unsurpassable, the ultimate winner. All others pale by comparison. Even the best and brightest are left eating his dust.  Intrinsically perfect by existence alone, the narcissist piles on with repetitive touts of his brilliant cleverness. He knows how to make money. For him this is the equivalent of reaching the spiritual enlightenment of the Buddha.  He's in and out of the market. He knows exactly when and what to buy and sell, when to go short, precisely how to sell off and pocket the big cash while others are too naive and ignorant to recognize that a financial tsunami awaits them offshore.

Narcissists use family members, quite often their children, as ego enhancements. High level narcissists, in particular, must let you know that their kids are attending the top schools, getting the highest grades, are very popular and extremely gifted. These children are swiftly accepted and sent to the best grad schools and medical schools and immediately become academic standouts. This does not mean that everyone who makes money and is astute with the market or who has children who succeed academically is a narcissist. It is the tone and persistent, obsessive bragging combined with other narcissistic traits (self absorption, grandiosity, superiority, arrogance, lack of empathy) that tells you that this is part of the narcissist's act: Telling you how wonderful he is.

Beneath the supercharged bravado and the unpunctuated delivery, the narcissist unconsciously feels irretrievably empty and worthless. When you are in the presence of a narcissist who is well into this routine, it is helpful to remember that this performance is all that he has.  When the curtain goes down, he walks offstage, back to a pseudo life. This is a lonely existence: lacking love, warmth, intimacy, humor, compassion or hope. Visit my website: www.thenarcissistinyourlife.com
